Mariposa Biotechnology
Mariposa Biotechnology, Inc.

Mariposa Biotechnology, Inc. (established in 2008) has developed a proprietary laboratory instrument that automates time-sensitive, labor-intensive steps in an IVF Laboratory. Our instruments prepare embryos and eggs for freezing and thawing. They may be suitable for preserving other high-value cells, such as stem cells. They may also be useful to the large animal food industry, allowing higher success rates in artificially inseminated eggs for cattle and pigs.
The automation of cryopreservation will improve IVF repeatability and reduce the human skill currently required. The overall benefits of an automated system are: simplified inventory control, reduction of skilled labor personnel, procedure repeatability, and improved record keeping.
Relaxis Sensory NeuroStimulation, Inc.

Relaxis Sensory NeuroStimulation, Inc. (established in 2008) has developed medical devices for the non-drug treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). Prevalence studies estimate that 5-10% of the population suffers from RLS, a condition that causes significant discomfort and adversely affects the quality of life of patients by interrupting sleep. Currently, three dopamine agonists - pramipexole (Mirapex), ropinirole (Requip), and rotigotine (Neupro) - as well as a pain medicine, gabapentin enacarbil (Horizant), are the only FDA-approved RLS treatments. No device has been approved. The company's treatment devices provide vibration stimulation that overwhelms or swamps the unpleasant sensations of RLS. Our initial product is designed to allow a patient experiencing an RLS attack to place and activate our device while remaining in bed.
Nasolex, Inc.

Nasolex, Inc. (established in 2009) is creating an alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Nasolex is developing a thin, flexible or expandable tube designed to treat OSA by preventing soft tissue obstruction of the airway in the posterior nasopharynx and at the base of the tongue, the two main causes of airflow obstruction in sleep apnea. Our novel, disposable device will be directed towards those who cannot tolerate or who do not want to live with a mechanical ventilation system every night. Furthermore, our device may eliminate the need for more invasive procedures, including surgery, when CPAP therapy fails. OSA is diagnosed at sleep centers, and this product will initially be distributed through these locations.
Reset Medical
Reset Medical, Inc.

Reset Medical, Inc. (established in 2012) is developing a simple surgical tool (similar to a suture applier) for transvaginal uterine artery ligation. Every gynecologist knows how to reach the uterine arteries from a vaginal approach, as this is an early step in transvaginal hysterectomy. No expensive laparoscopic equipment is needed to apply our device. This simple tool will be used to treat dysfunctional uterine bleeding and fibroids in those women who wish to maintain fertility or to maintain monthly menstruation. Our treatment is an alternative to endometrial ablation, myomectomy, hysterectomy, uterine artery embolization and endoscopic uterine artery ligation. Our treatment will be performed as an outpatient surgery. Surgical time should be no different than endometrial ablation procedures that take about 45 minutes.
ECD Medical
ECD Medical, Inc.

ECD Medical, Inc. (established in 2012) is developing a new arterial closure device for the large arterial punctures encountered in transvascular procedures such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and heart valve replacements.  Currently there are no easy solutions to closure of these large puncture sites other than vascular surgery.  If successful, we believe that the same technology can be used to develop a percutaneous system for the creation of dialysis shunts.  If the development of the arterial closure device is successful, we will spin-off the dialysis shunt project into a separate company.
